The YouTube Factory feat. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Lilly Singh, and More!
Summary: Lilly Singh takes The Rock on a tour of the super secret YouTube video creation factory.
This video was the second instalment of a video done of Lilly's channel which I have already reviewed so check it out. Anyway I was pleasantly surprised with the video, it had a lot of collaborations from top Youtubers which was probably to help The Rock get to the massive 800k subscribers in only 4 WEEKS!
Of course the production quality of the video was top notch because The Rock has the capital to put a lot into his videos. Also from reading the description box there were at least a dozen people on the production team so no wonder they could include all those special effects. In a way this takes away from the video because it's not authentic YouTube, it's just traditional media trying to craft something to fit in the YouTube space. It does work in this video to an extent but it takes away the personal aspect of YouTube which makes it so popular.
Hopefully The Rock team realises this and he does more simpler and personal videos as well as these big budget ones. I think he needs to take some tips from someone like Ryan Higa, he does very high quality, complicated production but still manages to keep his identity despite this. Maybe if The Rock came up with the ideas or had more influence on the script and showed his personality more then I wouldn't get the impression that he is just being an actor like normal instead of a Youtuber.
However despite the minor issues with the video it was amusing to an extent. The premise was really fun and well executed which gives us a little taste of what is to come. I definitely subscribed to the channel but whether I will actually watch his videos is to be decided. If this is successful then I don't think Dwayne will be the last celebrity to hop on the YouTube bandwagon permanently.
Overall the video was a good quality, with a few funny jokes here and there. If it was less big budget production and more YouTube style then I would have enjoyed it more but The Rock is only two videos in and has time to find his groove on YouTube. Personally I think the video deserves a 6/10, although I look forward to his next videos and hopefully they'll be better than this one.
